Are jewelry certificates issued by Westfield Jewelry Appraisers credible?

Hi!

I’m about to buy a piece of jewelry for my wife. It comes with a certificate issued by Westfield Jewelry Appraisers. Are these certificates credible?

Unfortunately, I cannot agree with @Editor that Westfield Jewelry Appraisers are always honest and consistent as far as gemstone treatment is concerned. No doubt, on most occasions they are but NOT ALWAYS.
Take a look at the image I have attached here. Westfield Jewelry Appraisers have identified this parcel of gemstones as natural emeralds with a whopping retail value estimate of $7540!
These are not emeralds. These are dyed beryls, and their retail value is around $20.
This is both very unprofessional and dishonest.

      Dear Paulo,

There are two things I’d like to say about Westfield Jewelry Appraisers:
The good thing is that they are perfectly clear and honest about the gemstone treatment methods in their certificates. For example, if a ruby is lead glass-filled, they state “treatment: glass & flux”. Many labs (or so-called labs) do not disclose such information. Westfield Jewelry Appraisers are not like that.
The bad thing, however, is that their estimated retail values are extremely inflated (as Anna has already mentioned). Actually, they are shamelessly lying about the market value of the items they certify.
Therefore, I find this lab very interesting – on the one hand, they are perfectly consistent and professional; on the other hand, they are just a bunch of scammers printing certificates with totally fake retail estimates.

      Best regards, Editor

There is at least one serious problem with the certificates by Westfield Jewelry Appraisers – their Estimated Retail Values are highly inflated. As a matter of fact, they have nothing to do with the reality. On average, these estimates are 30 to 50 times higher than the market value of the respective item.
I know, 30 to 50 times seems totally crazy. And it actually is but even that’s not their “greatest achievement”. I have seen certificates by Westfield Jewelry Appraisers with the Estimated Retail Value as much as 400 times the true market value!!!

      Regards, Anna

      Hi, Paulo!

I don’t think they are reliable. I have been collecting gemstones for quite some time, but I have never come across Westfield Jewelry Appraisers.
